Healthy Lifestyle/ Mexican Food/ Travel

How to eat healthy when you travel

Do you love to travel? && also live a healthy lifestyle?

But who else almost always gains weight going away? The food, the drinks, the relaxing. It catches up over a few days or a week BUT it is needed every so often to recharge yourself, your body, your mind, your heart, your soul. So enjoy the sh*t out of it! && I am going to share how it is so much easier than we think to eat healthy or plant based with fresh abundance abroad!

For starters, you can’t go wrong with fruit. It’s everywhere and depending where you are travelling (tropical) you can find the in season fruit abundantly! I started my mornings off with water and a variety of fresh fruit to keep my body hydrated in the heat of Mexico but to also cleanse the system upon waking. This was my multi-vitamin 🙂

Next, VEGGIES. There are always veggie options or vegetables available with most meals. Whether your shopping at a supermarket, at the hotel or a resort or eating out at a restaurant.

Here I chose the veggie wrap which was filled with veggies like lettuce, tomatoes, alfalfa sprouts, grilled zucchini and mushrooms. It came with a side of fresh salsa, guacamole and jalapenos! DELISCIOSO!

Most hotels and restaurants have options for veggie versions of meals otherwise can be very accommodating and flexible in switching up a meal with substitutes or minor changes.

BY THE WAY there’s going to be a lot of food pictures on this post… <3

Here is a meal I made slight modifications too. I enjoyed these delicious mushroom quesadillas with refried beans and fresh salsa BUT without the queso (cheese). I could have also chosen to add eggs in the quesadilla instead! At lunch there was a fish quesadilla – it was so good with lots of veggies and more of that famous guac and salsa!

The goal is be able to eat healthy while travelling to minimize indigestion, bloat or any other discomfort. I always travel with digestive enzymes whether it is around my own city or abroad. Why? If you are going to eat food you do not usually eat or are unsure if your body will be able to tolerate and digest properly a safe way to go is taking digestive enzymes to aid the body in breaking down the food.

For breakfast I chose oatmeal! Perfect way to power up for a day at the beach! This may have been accompanied by morning mimosas which may be fucking awesome. So yes, onto the food. I altered the oatmeal on the menu to be made with water instead of milk. So, now I’ve got my complex carb. I noticed there was a “breakfast buffet” which is where I got all my fruit from and they had a variety of goodies over there like nut butters, jams, coconut flakes and more. I would change the fruit up daily and always add peanut butter for some healthy fats to keep me fuller longer not to mention the yummy taste. I have to admit I would have liked to have more protein in this meal so I may travel with protein powder packets next time 🙂

There was so many great ways to opt for plant based meals, vegetarian meals, pescatarian meals and even gluten free! I do no meat, no dairy, eggs in moderation and limited gluten.

Even at the end of my trip I enjoyed an authentic mexican taco loaded with fresh veggies, salsa, guacamole, rice and BEANS at the airport. I bean thinking about this deliciousness so I’ll taco ’bout it! (haha) They were so yummy with a little spicy kick because I like my shit caliente. I mean, like my food, you know. I don’t do beer much but when in Mexico… taco pairs with a corona baby!

&& until my next travelling adventure, thank you for this delicious, nutritious && magical experience Mexico.. Gracias para todo!
